Plastic food packaging sheds microplastics that we eat.

Microplastics in our bodies are linked to life-threatening diseases.

An Open Letter to the Leaders of the grocery industry.

To Whole Foods Market, Sprouts, Costco, Albertsons, Walmart, C&S Wholesale, and Kroger.

Recently, the courts dismissed a Class-Action lawsuit against the makers of a plastic bag used for food storage at home. At issue was the shedding of microplastics from the bag and the risk of disease. The court stated that there was insufficient scientific evidence to support a causal relationship between ingesting microplastics and disease.

Inequity Repair believes we do not need litigation to tell us that eating plastic is harmful.

Science has found links between microplastics and disease. Read the report. Read another report.

However, we do believe in the value of science. A well-known university research team in the United States, which has addressed microplastics and cancer, dementia, cardiovascular disease, and reproductive disorders, designed a two-year research project to test if there is a causal relationship between microplastics in our bodies and life-threatening diseases. A copy of the research proposal is available for your review.

Inequity Repair, a California-registered nonprofit corporation, will fund this research through the sale of plant-based toothbrushes and dental floss for children and adults at supermarkets and box stores. Studies found that we ingest 200,000 microplastic particles each year by brushing twice a day with a plastic-bristle toothbrush.

Additionally, we will coordinate the research and development, production, and sale of plant-based food packaging for the packaged food industry. Several plant-based options are available today. R&D is required to develop alternative packaging, such as replacing petroleum-based plastic spouts on baby food pouches.

We are writing to request your cooperation in managing this transition from petroleum-based plastic food packaging to plant-based alternatives. We are not seeking investments; we are only seeking collaboration. As leaders in the food retail industry and as parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles, let's work together to replace plastic food packaging now.
